On the 8th of May this year I had the pleasure of working with the Hermes Ensemble of Belgium, who came to Birmingham University to work with Ph.D. students. I composed the piece Briar Rose for them - an exploration of interwoven folk melodies - and here is a recording of their first play through:

The final track of Part II is dedicated to Action for Children. Previously known as the National Children’s Home, this charity ran the orphanage in Whitby, Yorkshire, that took in my grandad, Lawrence Kidd, in the 1920s.
For Love, Labour, Loss weaves some of my memories of Lawrence together - a mixture of nostalgia, joy and sadness on his passing. The song features two amazing instrumentalists: Laetitia Stott as melodious French Horn and Stephanie Oatridge as lyrical Oboe.
