Inspired by the 'Songs Without Words' of Felix Mendelssohn, this quintet was composed in April and May 2010 for the Living Room quintet, and premiered on the 18th of May at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
WITHOUT WORDS for quintet [2010] - 9'00"
Without Words was commissioned by Manu Delago and the Living Room in London Ensemble for the totally unique ensemble of hang drums, two violins, cello and bass clarinet. The work has been toured around Europe, and was recorded on the ensemble's debut album.
I am eager for this piece to be reimagined for new ensembles, and would be excited to rework the composition for a new group, for example:
- String quartet, bass clarinet and piano
- String quintet, piano and percussion
Please do contact me if you would like to discuss a new version of the work!
